A Licensed Realtor for Charter I Realty and Marketing, Betty Melkon is a South Carolina native and a 15-year resident of Hilton Head Island. She specializes in luxury homes, beach-oriented property and investment property on Hilton Head.
Betty has worked very closely with high-net-worth individuals for the past 20 years, serving as a financial consultant and pension-fund manager with Robinson Humphrey (now Smith Barney) in Columbia, S.C., from 1986 to 1991; as the owner and manager of her own business, At Your Service, providing contract services for attorneys, physicians and other professional clients, from 1991 until the business was sold in 1993; and as manager of the Trust Department of First Union Bank on Hilton Head from 1993 to 1996, where she managed the trust funds of wealthy individuals and assisted them in the development of estate plans. In 1996, she re-entered the investment banking industry as vice president for Wheat First Butcher Singer (now Wachovia Securities) on Hilton Head Island, continuing to manage and provide consulting services for investors with large portfolios.
In 2002, she earned her S.C. Real Estate License and, in 2003, joined Hilton Head’s number one real estate company, Charter I, working at the company’s main office on the south end of the Island.
A million-dollar producer, she has earned the designation of Accredited Buyer Representative. She has received numerous awards in her field, including the 2004 Distinguished Sales Award and the 2004 Realtor Service Award, and was featured in the 2005 edition of Unique Homes ELITE magazine.
Betty is active in the Hilton Head Area Association of Realtors, assuming leadership roles and regularly continuing her education with pertinent courses and seminars. She earned her Real Estate Broker's license in December 2008.
She is also active in the Hilton Head community, having served as president of the Daughters of the King and a member of the Foundation Board at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She has served in various volunteer capacities with the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, the Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce, and the Self Family Arts Center. She is a graduate of Leadership South Carolina and a member of Women in Philanthropy, the Van Landingham Rotary Club, and the Friends of the Children at MUSC Children’s Hospital.
Married with four children and five grandchildren, Betty enjoys tennis, golf, and walking on Hilton Head’s beautiful beaches.
